Looking at Carys’ works is a bit like looking at your own reflection in a mirror. The subject matter is realistic but uncanny. The longer we stare, the more disturbing it becomes. In other words, we might be able to recognise the scene, but we struggle understand it. For her images depict figures and landscapes that appear both realistic and otherworldly. Indeed, her works, particularly her most recent ones, beg the question – ‘what lies between?’
