'Are you really wearing that?'
Elizabeth's mother would ask. 'Yes' the young, stubborn, yet as you'll see, resilient Elizabeth would reply, as she went out dressed in an array of colour.
After seeing her works, you may well think to yourself that such a choice of vibrant clothing is no surprise given how colourful her artwork is. You hay have also thought to yourself that Elizabeth must therefore have had a desire to paint in the bright way that she does from a young age. Yet Elizabeth's passion for painting these colours, even an appreciation of them, was non-existent when she was growing up - but this is not due to disinterest.
Growing up in England, Elizabeth decided to move to the U.S.A where she then lived in a military installation in North Dakota. Then suddenly one day in her early 20's, after going to have her eyes tested, she found herself being diagnosed with congenital cataracts, something she had been born with but never known about - until that very moment. After receiving surgery in Manchester, after her return to live in the U.K, Elizabeth discovered that she had an entirely new perspective of the world. 'When they took the bandages off, I just couldn't believe the differences in colour, until then I had just been living in a nicotine haze... whites and blues in particular were amazing to see... I had recently moved into a new house, and decorated it and I just could not believe the colours!' From then on, Elizabeth was hooked on all things colour - little surprise therefore, that her work is as vibrant as it is!
